Like in 2006, we were called to redesign Matt Mullenweg’s personal blog. This time, Matt asked us to design something with a strong Tex-Mex look, inspired by the style and colors of the Spanish Talavera pottery.
We mixed the mexican style with a somewhat worn and grungy look, with keen attention to details, to achieve a very colored and definitely unique design. We then coded it into web standard compliant XHTML and CSS templates. Quite predictably, Matt then converted our templates into a working WordPress them himself.
The fine design was executed by Nicolò Volpato, the same talented fellow who did the last design. My concept was to evoke Spanish talavera, inspired by my trips to Spain and Argentina and pottery at my parents’ house [...].
It was a lot of fun to work with Nicolò on and I already have a few ideas for Fall.— Matt Mullenweg
